AIChE 2018 Annual Meeting

Session Organizer. Dr. Guvendiren organized and chaired a session on "Bioprinting of Scaffolds, Tissues and Organs" during AIChE 2018 Annual Meeting.

 

Podium Presentations. Dr. Chya-Yan Liaw and Shen Ji (PhD Candidate) presented their studies. Dr. Chya-Yan's talk was titled "3D Printing of Hydrogels with Spontaneous Formation of Solvent-Induced Patterns". Jorge Pereyra (CHE BS 2018) was a co-author in this work. Shen's presentation was titled "Bioprinting of Large-Scale Hydrogels with Built-in Vascular Channels". This study was co-authored by Emily Almeida (CHE BS 2018). In addition, Guluzar Buyukoz (2018 Independent Study Student, PhD Candidate in Prof. Dave's group) presented her work on "Additive Manufacturing of High Drug Loaded Extended Release Tablets via FDM 3D Printing".

NJIT International Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium !!!

Hazal Yalcin (BME, NJIT)), Caroline D'souza (CHE, NJIT) and Ecem Badruk (BME, Celal Bayar University in Turkey) successfully presented their work during the 11th International Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium at NJIT. We congratulate Hazal, Caroline and Ecem as well as their mentors Dr. Chya-Yan and Shen Ji. We are also grateful for the Provost's Summer Research Fellowship Program (Hazal) and the Honors College Summer Research Program (Caroline). Caroline and Jorge continue their research under the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.

New Grant !!!

Dr. Guvendiren received a Seed Grant from The Center for Engineering MechanoBiology (CEMB), a multi-institutional Science and Technology Center funded by the National Science Foundation. We are looking forward to fruitful collaborations with the CEMB affiliated faculty members.

Dr. Guvendiren delivered an invited lecture on "Applications of 3D printing in medicine" during the International Conference on 3D Printing in Medicine, held in Mainz, Germany.

Session Organizer / Society for Biomaterials (SFB) 2018 Annual Meeting and Exposition

Dr. Guvendiren co-organized two sessions and chaired one session at the SFB 2018 Annual Meeting and Exposition, which was held in Atlanta. The two symposiums were "Biomaterials and Scaffolds for Interfacial Tissue Engineering" and "3D Bioprinting for Medical Applications". He also chaired the 3D Bioprinting session.

Invited Plenary / TAFDV Spring Symposium 2018

Dr. Guvendiren gave an invited plenary during Thermal Analysis Forum Delaware Valley (TAFDV) Spring Symposium - Convergence of Materials Science and Life Science. The symposium took place in Rutgers University-Camden. IBAM-Lab members also represented their posters: one from Shen Ji (graduate student) and Emily Almeida (CHE-undergraduate), and one from Chya-Yan Liaw (potdoc) and Jorge Pereyra (CHE-undergraduate). Congrats everyone !!!

Dr. Guvendiren gave an invited talk during BioEngineering 2018 Conference in Boston, organized by Select Biosciences, focusing on 3D-Bioprinting, Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication.

Invited Plenary / Mid-Atlantic Biomaterials Day 2018

Dr. Guvendiren gave an invited talk on "Designing Biomaterials for 3D Printing", during Mid-Atlantic Region Biomaterials Day, sponsored by the Society for Biomaterials. The event took place in John Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.

New Publication !!!

Our review paper titled "Engineering 3D Hydrogels for Personalized In Vitro Human Tissue Models" is published online in Advanced Healthcare Materials Journal. Congrats to our lead author Dr. Chya-Yan, and Shen Ji. Chya-Yan's image design is selected as back cover of the journal for the corresponding issue. See Publications page for details.

Undergradute Students Contributed to the NJIT Distributed Technology Museum !!!

Dr. Guvendiren developed a Design Challenge Project for the undergraduate students in his course on 3D printing offered in Fall 2017 semester. In this project, students were asked to design and 3D-print a special stand for a historic dynamometer. The printed stands were evaluated by Profs. Robert Barat (Chemical Engineering Department) and Elizabeth Petrick (History Department). Click to read the full story.

We received a new research grant from the New Jersey Health Foundation (NJHF). NJHF is a not-for-profit organization supporting exciting health-related research and education programs in New Jersey.

NEW COURSE in MAKERSPACE - CHE 702: Additive Manufacturing and Applications!

Dr. Guvendiren is offering a new course on Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) this semester. The course utilizes the new Makerspace Facility at NJIT. The course is designed for engineering graduate students, and currently offered as an elective in Chemical Engineering Department. More details about the course content see our dedicated page for Teaching.

 

30 students (15 PhD + 15 MS candidates) enrolled in this course from CHE, BME, MSE, and CE. Below are the snapshots from one of the lecture and hands-on 3D printing sections in Makerspace.
